Practical guide
Write a snippet that earns the click
A search result is a promise about the page behind it. Put the main topic near the start of the title, state the concrete outcome in the description, and make sure both match what the visitor will actually find.
Every indexable page should have its own title and description. Duplicated metadata makes pages harder to tell apart in results and wastes the one line of text a searcher reads before deciding.
Privacy: Text you type stays in this browser tab. If you import a URL, PostlyBee downloads that public page once to read its tags and does not store it. Your browser loads the preview image directly from its address.
- 01
Write the title
Lead with the topic and keep it near 60 characters so it is not cut off.
- 02
Add the description
Summarise the page in one or two sentences, around 120–160 characters.
- 03
Check the snippet
Read the preview as a searcher would, then copy the tags into the page head.
Pro tips
Pro tips for Google Search metadata
Width decides truncation, not characters
Google cuts titles by rendered pixel width, roughly 600 px. About 60 characters is a safe planning figure, but wide letters such as W or M use up the space sooner.
Snippets can be rewritten
Google may replace your description with text from the page when it matches the query better. Write one accurate description per page and treat the preview as a plan, not a promise.
Open Graph tags are ignored here
Search results use the title, description, and canonical URL. Open Graph and X card tags only affect how a link looks when it is shared.
