Practical guide
Check length without writing to the number
Character limits are boundaries, not targets. Use the counter to spot a draft that will not fit, then edit for clarity instead of filling every character. Put the main idea first, because feeds cut text off long before the hard limit.
Counts are an estimate: links, emoji, and premium accounts can be weighted differently by each network. Confirm the final result in the PostlyBee preview before you publish.
Privacy: Your draft is processed in this browser tab. This tool does not send the text to PostlyBee or an AI service.

Pro tips
Pro tips for fitting every network
Write for the tightest network first
If you cross-post, draft for X (280) or Bluesky (300) first, then expand for roomier networks. Trimming is easier than padding, and the Fits and Over labels show where a version needs work.
Mind the fold, not just the limit
Feeds collapse text well before the hard limit: roughly 125 characters on Instagram and 210 on LinkedIn. Put the hook in the opening lines of every version.
Keep a short and a long version
Keep one punchy version for X, Threads, and Bluesky and a fuller one for LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, so each network gets copy written for its length.
Count links the way the network does
X and Mastodon count every link as 23 characters, however long the URL is, and this counter applies that. Other networks can weight links differently, so check the preview.
Leave a buffer for emoji
This tool counts a combined emoji as one visible character, but networks can weight some emoji and non-Latin scripts differently. Keep a small margin when you are close to a limit.
Fine-tune on the platform page
Once a draft fits broadly, open that network’s counter for its fold preview, thread splitting on X, or a custom server limit on Mastodon before you publish.
